Sexual assault occurs on campus

A Ball State student reported a rape on campus last week, according to University Police.

Around 4:00 a.m. on Nov. 19, a student was sexually assaulted in her room at Howick Hall, according to the University Police Department.

The victim told police the alleged assailant was an acquaintance, according to Robert Fey, deputy chief of UPD.

The complaint is the latest in a rash of apparently unrelated rapes reported on and around Ball State this year.

Melody Johnson, representative for Muncie's Victim Advocate Program told the DAILY NEWS last month that the center had been informed of nine alleged rapes in the county since Sept. 16, including several on campus. However, both Johnson and police officials said the rapes appear to be unrelated.
