Ritz places 17th at NCAA meet

Ball State's Stacey Ritz placed 17th in the NCAA women's cross country championships Monday in Greenville, S.C. Ritz, a junior ran the six-kilometer course in 21:04. Ritz crossed the finish line only 40 seconds behind winner Tara Chaplin of Arizona. There were 249 girls competing in this race.

The Cards failed to qualify for the national meet, but Ritz qualified as an individual after placing fourth at the Great Lakes Regional meet in Terre Haute two weeks ago. Ritz was the second finisher among racers who were not affiliated with a team. She now looks forward to indoor track season and another successful cross country campaign in 2002.
