Less than 1 percent of plastic bags are recycled each year in America, according to the Clean Air Council. Most plastic bags contribute to landfill waste and a chunk of them make their way to the ocean. In an effort to combat this problem, grocery stores are investing in reusable shopping bags or totes that give customers a discount on grocery purchases.
