Inside biochemistry major Chase Brammer’s tan and olive Merrell shoebox lies hundreds of multicolored pieces of paper. They aren’t for reminder notes or for sketching doodles. Instead, he makes up to a hundred intricate folds on the 3-square inch pieces.

While sitting up against a white, sheepskin throw, Aaron Paul Comino wipes his face of the metal and sand suet. He is creating a ring from a 1928 Goldenrod Flower spoon. As Comino shapes the piece of jewelry, folk singer Noah Gundersen echoes in the background, singing in time with the rhythmic process of molding metal art.

As Blake Mellencamp leads his Writers’ community meeting, the air is completely relaxed and humorous, like friends hanging out. The small group of students tosses around a few ideas from a writing prompt he has just handed out, exploring creative writing styles. After a few people have shared, he reads his own prompt, which gets the whole room laughing. He looks around with an easy grin on his face.

Within the basement of LaFollette in a small, make-do fashion studio mannequins line the walls wearing the custom pieces created by fashion majors. Senior Arlee Post sits in the studio surrounded by sketches, fabrics and the sewing materials she is using on her current collection.

Just as the glass appeared to harden, Alex Dils dipped it into a nearby oven before returning to his workbench. As he carefully pressed metal tools to the side of his newly formed genie vase, the Robin Williams tribute piece shattered into cobalt-shaded fragments.

Orange light splashed the backyard of Be Here Now. Then the sound came. A roaring whoosh of flame lit up the patio as Jason Riley whipped the burning rod through the air. Burning at both ends, the pole twirled around his body, through his legs and then extinguished with a forceful final swing.
