What to do during Welcome Week

The first couple of weeks of the fall semester are an exciting time around campus, full of multiple events and opportunities for students to get to know campus and get involved in different offices and organizations. 

Here's a list of events during Welcome Week 2017:

Wednesday, August 16 

Rock the Halls 

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Location: Noyer Lawn 

Details: Join Housing and Residence Life on the Noyer Lawn for fun activities and free food.

Thursday, August 17

Poster Sale 

Time: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Location: L.A. Pittenger Student Center Front Lawn

Details: Decorate your dorm room and come shop the poster sale outside of the Student Center.

Ball State Athletics: Chirp! Chirp! 

Time: 9 p.m. 

Location:  John E. Worthen Arena

Details: Learn the fight song, cheers, get a free t-shirt and watch as one lucky freshman will have the opportunity to win free tuition for the spring 2017 semester.

Ball State "Back to College" Event at Meijer 

When: 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. 

Location: Meet at Worthen Arena 

Details: Buses will shuttle students to and from Meijer. Meijer Mania features free food, samples and much more.

Friday, August 18

What: Service Project 

When: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

Location: Student Center Room 136

Details: Participants can join other new students as they begin their Ball State experience giving back to the local community. Free T-shirts will be provided.

Where are my classes?

When: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m and 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. 

Location: Meet in the lobby of your residence hall 

Details: Bring your schedule and walk the campus with your Welcome Week leader as they help you find all of your classes. 

Hypnotist Dan LaRosa 

When: 9 p.m.

Location: Emens Auditorium 

Details: “[LaRosa] always fills Emens Auditorium, and he’s been coming to campus for over 20 years. He’s a tradition and staple to Welcome Week,” Lindsey Speer, associate director of admissions said in past Daily News article. “[He] puts on a great show, even if you aren’t selected to be on stage hypnotized. Watching students in hypnosis is quite entertaining."

Mandatory Campus Emergency Preparedness Training 

When: 3-4:45 p.m.

Where: Emens Auditorium 

Details: UPD will be leading the training to prepare all new students of what to do incase of an emergency situation on campus. 

Saturday, August 19

Recreation Service Preview Day 

When: 12-5 p.m. 

Location: JoAnn Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center 

Details: Explore opportunities at the Rec Center, earn a free t-shirt, prizes and more!

Activity Fair 

When: 6-8 p.m. 

Location: Field Sports Building

Details: Looking to get involved on-campus? Come meet and learn more about student organizations at Ball State.  

Late Nite @ Ball State 

When: 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. 

Where: Student Center 

Details: Late Night will be hosting a "Ready, Set, Late Nite!" event featuring free food, activities, bumper cars and more. 

Sunday, August 20 

Mandatory Freshman Convocation 

When: 1:45 p.m.

Location: Emens Auditorium 

Details: Students will come to the convocation with their RAs and join faculty and staff at Ball State to welcome freshman to their academic career. 

Residence Hall Floor Meetings 

When: 9 p.m. 

Location: Residence Halls 

Details: Join your RAs and other residents for the meeting to learn about important details about living in the residence halls.

Monday, August 21- Classes Begin 

Information Tent

When: Monday, Tuesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location: Outside of the Art and Journalism Building 

Details: Staff from the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services will be there to help students answer any questions they might have. 

Scramble Snacks 

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location: Scramble Light 

Details: University Program Board will be handing out free snacks. 

Tuesday, August 22

UPB Callout Party 

When: 8 p.m.

Location: University Green 

Wednesday, August 23 

Welcome Back Bash 

When: 7-11 p.m.

Location: Cardnial Lanes 

Details: Free cosmic bowling, snacks, drinks and gaming. 

Grocery Bingo 

When: 8 p.m.

Location: Emens Auditorium 

Details: Doors will open at 7 p.m.

Thursday, August 24

Meet the Greeks

When: 4-6 p.m.

Location: University Green

Open Mic Night 

When: 9-11 p.m. 

Location: Patio at the Art and Journalism Building

Friday, August 25

Multicultural Center Welcome Back Bash 

When: 3-5 p.m.

Location: Student Center Ballroom 

Details: Join the Multicultural Center to meet organizations and enjoy free snacks. 

Quad Bash 

When: 6-11 p.m.

Location: The Quad 

Details: Grab a friend and head to The Quad for live music, games, food, and enjoy the movie Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2. The rain location is at Pruis Hall.

Saturday, August 26 

Late Nite @ Ball State 

When: 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. 

Location: Student Center 

Details: Get ready to dive into slip-n-slides, a foam pit, smoothies, food and more.
