3 things to do in Muncie for Memorial Day

Ball State's campus will be all but shut down on Memorial Day, but several churches and organizations are putting together different programs on the national holiday.

Memorial Day Remembrance Program, with America's Hometown Band

Time: 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This free annual Memorial Day remembrance and honor program for military personnel in Muncie and Delaware County will take place in the Military Section of Beech Grove Cemetery. America's Hometown Band (AHB) will be performing a patriotic musical prelude beginning at 10:45 a.m. as well as a musical salute to each branch of the military. AHB will also be closing the ceremony.

Beech Grove Cemetery officials coordinated the program that will feature speakers from both the City of Muncie and the Delaware County Veterans organization. A color guard presentation and rifle salute are also scheduled along with an acknowledgment of local veterans who have died since the previous years gathering.

Blue Star Museum Days

Time: All Day

In collaboration with Blue Star Museums, Minnetrista will be offering free admission to the nation's active duty military personnel. This will include access from the National Guard and Reserve as well as their families from Memorial Day until Labor Day.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Time: 7:30-10 p.m.

This event hosted by Muncie Civic Theatre will be hosted at the Minnetrista Oakhurst Gardens. "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is recognized as one of Shakespeare's most popular works which follows the adventures of four lovers, an amateur acting troupe and their interactions with different woodland fairies. 

While this is a recurring event, other dates are TBD. The tickets cost $18 for adults, $15 for groups of 10 or more and $13 for students and children.

Other events hosting Memorial Day Services

  • Bethel Church will be hosting a memorial day service at 10 a.m.
  • Redkey Memorial Day ceremonies are at 9 a.m. at Claycomb Cemetery and at both 10 and 11 a.m. at Redkey War Mothers Memorial Monument.
  • West Randolph Post 353 hosts an American Legion Memorial Day service at 2 p.m.
  • Elm Ridge Funeral home and Memorial Park Memorial Day program will feature multiple speakers beginning at 1 p.m. Memorial Day.
