Matt Walsh named MIVA Defensive Player of the Week

Ball State men’s volleyball sophomore middle attacker Matt Walsh was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. 

Walsh aided the No. 8 Cardinals to a 13-3 record and an undefeated record of 7-0 in the MIVA this season.

Last week, he recorded a season-high 10 blocks against Quincy University, extending the Cardinals' win streak to nine. The following night, Walsh added seven more blocks in their win against Lindenwood University.

The sophomore’s 6-foot-11 frame has disrupted offenses all season long, including holding Lindenwood to a hitting percentage of -.115. Walsh is averaging 1.50 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .341 percent this season.

He also ranks fourth in the MIVA in blocks per set with 1.11.

The Cardinals will take their 10-game win streak on the road for three games as they head out west to take on Grand Canyon March 5-6 and UCLA on March 7.
