The Ball State women's basketball team put together a dominant performance as it defeated Murray State 85-59 in the first round of the Ball State Federal Credit Union Thanksgiving Classic.

The Cardinals controlled the entire game, never surrendering the lead to the Racers.

The offense was led by a balanced attack, with five players scoring in double digits. Senior Shelbie Justice led the attack with 19 points, followed by junior Nathalie Fontaine with 18. Junior Candyce Ussery followed with 17, sophomore Calyn Hosea had 16, and sophomore Jill Morrison finished with 13. 

Ball State shot just over 50 percent on field goals for the game. The Cardinals also made 40 percent of their three-point attempts in the second half to contribute to their overall percentage.

Justice also led the team in rebounds with seven total. Ball State out-rebounded Murray State by a dozen boards. The Cardinals had 35 defensive rebounds, taking away many second-chance opportunities.

Ball State improves to 2-2 on the season. The Cardinals will advance to the finals of the tournament against Duquesne at noon on Nov. 30 at home. This will be the first meeting between the teams.
