The Ball State softball team defeated Mid-American Conference leading Ohio 7-0 this afternoon to sweep the weekend series at the Ball State Softball Complex.

A five-run third inning propelled the Cardinals to the victory. The inning was highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Taylor Rager and Audrey Bickel.

Designated player Sammi Cowger had two hits to lead the team while Rager had three RBIs. Hannah Stuedemann was 1-for-1 with two RBIs in a pinch-hit appearance. Seven Ball State hitters had hits in the game.

Kelsey Schifferdecker pitched a complete game in the circle facing 26 batters. She held Ohio to no runs on just three hits. Schifferdecker also had three strikeouts in the game and one walk.

Ball State committed no errors.

Ball State outscored Ohio 17-0 in two shutout victories.

The win improves Ball State’s overall record to 27-16 and its MAC West-leading record to 7-3. The team returns to action next weekend at home against Miami.z
