Ball State’s second drive of the day was a sign of things to come during Saturday’s contest with Central Michigan. The Cardinals rode that momentum and continued their bend-don’t-break mentality on offense to pull away with a 45-20 victory.
An all-around performance and second-half momentum gave Ball State a 45-20 victory over Central Michigan, securing the Cardinals their first season over .500 and first four-game winning streak since 2013.
The Cardinals used energy and toughness on the defensive end of the floor to pull away with a 58-54 victory against Western Kentucky (0-2, 0-0 C-USA).
Whitford said he is pleased with the improvements by the defense. The Cardinals beat Illinois at Chicago 68-66 and held the Flames to the lowest total of an opponent all season.
The sixth-year senior has been in college for more than half a decade, and basketball is all he has known his whole life. For Walton, something new was necessary.
Next season, Ball State will welcome another Muncie-based product.

A tale of two halves was the story Wednesday night, where Ball State Women’s Basketball (0-3, 0-1 MAC) lost 77-58 against Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan (2-1, 1-1 MAC).
In preparation for a shortened 72 game season, the Indiana Pacers had a productive offseason with some significant changes to the team and coaching staff. Indiana will first be in action Saturday, Dec. 12, with a 7:00 p.m. pre-season game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Ball State Men’s Basketball (0-1) started off its 100th season with a 74-73 loss to Northern Kentucky (1-0), and it mirrored what happened almost exactly a year ago — a lot of missed free throws and a close game.
Fast forward to Nov. 25. The Cardinals will walk on the court at Milwaukee for their season opener, with tipoff slated for 6:30 p.m.
Ball State Men’s basketball starts its season Nov. 25, as they travel to play Northern Kentucky. Head coach James Whitford believes the team has a lot of potential but knows there will be bumps in the road to reach it.
Ball State Cross Country finished fifth overall in today’s Mid-American Conference Championship, the team’s highest placing since 2007. The Cardinals were led by freshman Elka Machan, who placed fourth individually in the 95 runner race. Senior Cayla Eckenroth was not far behind, finishing 11th.
Entering her fourth season with Ball State, Holder finished the 2019 regular season with 153 kills — sixth on the team. She was also named MVP of the 2019 Mid-American Conference Volleyball Championship, leading the Cardinals with three kills per set.
Ball State allowed Northern Illinois (0-3 MAC) to score a touchdown on the first drive of the game and again early in the second quarter. The defense showed flashes but couldn’t quite muster enough stops to force a punt.
