Sophomore Joey Ranieri’s 12th-place tie wasn’t enough to lead Ball State Men’s Golf to a top-5 finish at the Marquette Intercollegiate this week in Wisconsin.
Ball State Women’s Golf travelled to Colorado and finished in sixth place overall at the Col Wollenberg Ram Classic Tuesday.
Coming off a first-place finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, Ball State Men’s Golf settled for an 11th-place tie at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas. Through three days, the Cardinals finished 8-over-par for a total score of 860.
The tournament marked the first number one finish for the Cardinals since the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in March 2017.
In Ball State’s only home match of the fall, the women’s golf team outlasted 10 other schools to claim victory in Yorktown. In addition to a win at home, every Cardinal competing finished in the top 20 individually.
In the first tournament of the fall season, Ball State Women’s Golf placed third overall thanks to two top-10 individual finishes on Monday.
However, it was not enough to lead Ball State Men’s Golf to a top-five finish. Inclement weather postponed Friday and Sunday’s rounds, making Saturday’s standings final.
Although the Cardinals fell short of a top-10 finish at the Boilermaker Invite on April 13-14, placing 11th out of 15 teams, Ranieri’s score of 143 placed him in a tie for 22nd through two rounds to lead the team.
After the first two rounds of play on Monday, Ball State found itself tied for second place only behind host Georgetown.
Ball State Men’s Golf fell short of a top-10 finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship April 5-7 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Cardinals finished 15th out of 17 teams, with a combined score of 870 to finish 5-over par.
Freshman Joey Ranieri’s score of 140 led all individuals and Ball State Men’s Golf at the Butler Invitational on April 1 and 2.
Despite struggling after day one of the EKU Colonel Classic, Ball State jumped up the leaderboard during the final round on Saturday.
