Ball State finished 7th out of 11 in the Cardinals’ first 6k race of the season at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open at Bowling Green State University. Toldeo took first place.
With the season already underway, the cross-country squad is looking to carry the track and field program’s success from the winter and spring into the fall. Head coach Adrian Wheatley is entering his third year as head coach of the cross-country and track & field programs.
Below are highlights and results from the past week’s Delaware County sporting events that those on the Daily News Sports Team were unable to attend. Any results throughout the week not included were unable to be found or were not shared.
“[When] we’re looking at scheduling and things of that nature, you are competing against other, more established meets that are on the schedule,” Wheatley said. “Our sport is a little different from other sports, again, it’s you’re at the mercy of what’s going on that weekend, and we have come up against a couple weekends where there are some established meets that attract other teams.”

Just over 16 years ago, Ball State Cross Country captured its first Mid-American Conference Championship title under former head coach Sue Parks. In the time since, Ball State has fallen in the rankings of the MAC. However, the program is making progress toward returning to its previous strength with the help of assistant distance coach Rachel McFarlane.
Its placement greatly improved upon last year's performance of 11th place and is also the teams best finish at the MAC Championships since 2007.
Three weeks after its meet in East Lansing, Michigan, Ball State Cross Country returned to compete in the Louisville Classic where they finished 14th out of 39 teams.

Two weeks ago, Ball State Cross Country recorded its first 1st place finish in two years at the Jenna Strong Invitational. The Cardinals are looking to work off of that momentum going into the season finale at the MAC Championships this weekend in Toledo, Ohio.
Coming off a second place finish at the IWU Twilight invite, Ball State Cross Country will face a tall task this weekend in the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State University.
After heading due south for the Butler Twilight meet last weekend, Ball State Cross Country will be heading just up the road to Marion, Indiana for the IWU Twilight meet.
Looking to start its season on a high note, Ball State Cross-Country will be heading to Indianapolis for the Butler Twilight Invitational.
Ball State cross country will travel to Terre Haute to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional meet this weekend.
