SpongeBob, a goose, ear grease and a diss track? The Major League Baseball postseason has been a wacky, but fun, one and it still isn’t over. One more series remains until we crown a champion. Here’s how we got here:
The Ball State Daily News obtained the contracts of all Ball State Athletics coaches and compiled the top five highest earners. All figures are the base salaries, not including retention bonuses, incentives or coaching perks. All multi-year contracts included liquidation causes that detail the amount owed by the coach or Ball State University in the event of a coach's departure. If the coach chooses to leave, there is a certain amount that they owe the university in liquidation depending on how many years are left on the contract, but if the university decided to terminate the coach's contract without probable cause, the university owes that coach a certain amount to fulfill the remainder of the contract.

As first reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN at 4:30 p.m., the Baltimore Orioles traded former All-Star first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini to the Houston Astros August 1, 2022. At 5:09 p.m., less than one hour later, Passan reported former Ball State Baseball right-handed pitcher and Houston Astros fourth-round draft pick (2021) Chayce McDermott was on his way to Baltimore as part of this three-team trade centered around Mancini.
After an All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) First Team and All-MAC Defensive Team season for Ball State Baseball in 2022, and playing in the Cape Cod Summer League during June and July, outfielder Zach Cole was told he was going to be selected in the 2022 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft, but not when. Cole paced around his living room during day two of the draft, July 18, 2022, anxiously tapping his foot, awaiting a phone call from his agent notifying him of his selection.

July 18, 2022, just a couple of hours after teammate and left-handed pitcher Tyler Schweitzer was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft by the Chicago White Sox, Ball State Baseball outfielder Zach Cole has been selected in the 10th round (313th pick) of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros.
July 18, 2022, in the fifth round (161st pick) of the 2022 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft, Ball State Baseball left-handed pitcher Tyler Schweitzer has been selected by the Chicago White Sox.
“It’s surreal, it hasn't really hit me yet,” Ball State Baseball pitcher Tyler Schweitzer said. “I'm still waiting for the phone call, ‘hey, you're getting drafted this next pick, just be ready for it,’ and I don't think it's gonna hit me until I'm on that plane going to either Florida or Arizona to get my physical and whatnot. It's a dream come true, I've been wanting this since I was probably 10 [years old], so making it finally happen, it feels like the sacrifices that I've made along the way are finally paying off and I'm reaping what I'm sowing.”

Indiana District 6 is set to play host to both the 2022 Little League Baseball Indiana State Tournament and the Junior League Softball Central Regional. These two tournaments are scheduled to overlap, as the Little League Baseball Tournament is scheduled for July 22-27 and the Junior League Softball Tournament is scheduled for July 20-25.
June 21, Ball State Baseball and the Cardinals' head coach Rich Maloney announced assistant coach Blake Beemer has accepted the head baseball coach position at Butler University. Beemer spent the last four seasons at Ball State as an assistant coach after spending four years as a Ball State Baseball player.
Illiana Christian High School (21-7) shut out Wapahani High School (24-5) June 11, advancing to the Indiana State High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) 2A State Championship.
Memorial Day was host to six Delaware County Baseball games, with five different high schools in action. A rundown of each event is below:
For Ball State Baseball, the 2022 season has been fueled by disappointment of years past. In 2021, the Cardinals finished 38-18, 29-11 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and were one of the first four out of the NCAA Regionals after they finished second in their conference.
Ever since he was a kid, Delta High School Baseball head coach Devin Wilburn wanted to play baseball.
For the first time since 2014, Ball State Baseball (38-17, 32-7 MAC) are Mid-American Conference (MAC) Regular Season Champions. Heading into their May 19-21 series against Miami (Ohio) (23-33, 18-22 MAC), the Cardinals were in second place in the conference, however, they swept the Redhawks in four games while Central Michigan (38-16, 30-7 MAC) lost the first game of their series over the weekend.
Just like that, first place in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) slips out of Ball State Baseball’s (34-17, 28-7 MAC) hands. Going into May 13-15’s series against Ohio (26-21, 18-14 MAC), the Cardinals won 21 of their last 24 games, including a four-game series sweep against former first-place Central Michigan (36-15, 28-6 MAC).
