Corey Ohlenkamp

Unified Media Lab Adviser

Corey Ohlenkamp serves as the new Director of the Unified Media Lab (UML). In this role, Ohlenkamp will oversee and support student media organizations, including The Ball State Daily News, Ball Bearings, Byte and other student-led media initiatives. He will also coordinate with the team at NewsLink Indiana.

Ohlenkamp, a double alumnus of Ball State University, brings a wealth of experience in journalism and public information to this position. Originally from Crown Point, Indiana, Ohlenkamp earned his undergraduate degree in Journalism in 2014 and completed his graduate studies in the same field in 2020, both at Ball State University. His academic foundation has fueled a dynamic career in communications and journalism.

Ohlenkamp began his journey at The Star Press, a Gannett-owned newspaper in Muncie, Indiana. There, he developed his skills as a journalist, delivering in-depth coverage on a wide range of local issues through both writing and photojournalism. His commitment to accuracy and his focus on reporting what mattered most to the Muncie and Delaware County communities made him a trusted voice in the region.

Transitioning from journalism to strategic communication, Ohlenkamp expanded his expertise into public information and media relations. He has held significant roles, including Director of Communications for the City of Muncie, Public Information Officer for Indiana Michigan Power, and later for the City of Indianapolis's Department of Public Works. In each of these roles, Ohlenkamp was instrumental in managing public relations, disseminating information to the public and media, and ensuring transparent communication between these organizations and the communities they serve.
