Maxwell’s Barber Shop gives back to the community

MUNCIE, Ind. — For almost eight years, Nick Richards has owned Maxwell’s Barber Shop, but he has been around the business for far longer than that.

Richards grew up in Muncie and always got his hair cut at Maxwell's Barber Shop.

“It’s pretty bittersweet to be able to own the barber shop I grew up in. This is my community, this is the city I was born and raised in, there’s nowhere I'd rather be giving back to than Muncie,” Said Richards.

This whole month, Richards has decided to give back to the law enforcement community in tribute to Corporal Blake Reynolds of the Delaware County Sheriff's Department, who passed away recently.

“I have been in contact with a couple of my close friends that have worked with Blake and they are taking it day by day, it's pretty rough for them, if i can provide a space for them to come in and hangout or relax and just kinda forget about life a little bit that's a positive in my book," said Richards.

For Barber, Joe Luckett, it hit close to home.

“My father was a police officer for 26 years, so we definitely know what that’s like as a family to have someone leave every day and not knowing if they are going to come home and being thankful when they are there,” said Luckett.

Some of the law enforcement community even traveled to support the tribute.

“I welcome anybody to come in here, regardless of the agency. If there is a sheriff, a city police officer, a state police officer, any type of law enforcement, I welcome them into Maxwell's barber shop,” said Richard.

The shop has become Richard’s way of giving back to his community. The tribute lasts all month long.
