JERUSALEM -- Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first phase of a peace plan, according to President Donald Trump.
Trump posted the announcement Wednesday evening on Truth Social.
Hamas media representative Taher Al-Nounou said Hamas has handed over a list of candidates for the 1,950 Palestinian prisoners or detainees. The Trump plan requires Israel to free these prisoners or detainees in exchange for the 48 hostages, 20 of whom are believed to be alive, Bloomberg News reported earlier today.
"ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon," Trump wrote. "Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line."
Trump went on to thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey who worked with them to "make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen."

Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu posted on X moments after Trump, affirming the peace plan.
"This is a diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for the State of Israel," Netanyahu wrote.
Netanyahu thanked Trump in his X post.

It is unclear what the details of the peace plan are.
The Israel-Hamas war began just over two years ago, formally starting Oct. 7, 2023.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is primarily over territory and dates back more than a century.
