MUNCIE, Ind. — What started as a simple love for houseplants in her home during quarantine in 2020 has blossomed into a growing business known as White River Tropical.
Owner Cat Dyeak started her business on Etsy, selling plants with no contact with her customers. Then shortly after, she expanded her business by sharing her love for plants by arranging public meetups to inform those who have an interest in plants.
This made it possible for customers to make appointments with her out of her home, so she could give personalized attention to find a plant that fits what they are looking for, and their skill level.
“I like to let my customers know, especially those new to plants, and that my family will attest to, I used to kill every plant I owned. So there is hope for everyone,” Dyeak said.
Dyeak’s love for plants soon grew into more than just a hobby and expanded to local events such as the country flea market held on the first Saturday of every month, and many other local events, as well as an upcoming event located at The Delaware County fairgrounds for the exotic Animal and tropical plant expo on Sept. 28.
Finally, Dyeak's business settled out of her own home. She has made a dedicated sunroom for all of her plants.
Dyeak sells a diverse and reasonably priced selection of tropical houseplants, air plants, which started in 2022 and starter bonsai plants that started in the fall of 2024. Dyeak has something for everyone who is interested in adding a little life to their space.
“I encourage everyone to Facebook friend me or follow me on Facebook marketplace so they may continue to reach out to me for help, or any questions they might have along the way”. Dyeak encourages.
