MUNCIE, Ind. – The final show of the Muncie Three Trails Music Series featured an Afro-Peruvian Jazz Orchestra. The show concluded the twelfth year of the free concert series.
The music series expanded this year to feature three concerts at Brown Family Amphitheater. The free concerts marked a new sponsorship by Ball State University.
“With the concerts that we are presenting at Brown Family Amphitheater, we are hoping that maybe community members might come up to Brown Family Amphitheater,” Rick Zeigler, Three Trails Founder and Music Coordinator, said.
Zeigler said that Ball State University President Geoffrey Mearns believes that Muncie and the university are better together. They both hope that this expanded concert series continues that relationship.
“Ball State has a lot of resources that Muncie does not have and vice versa,” Zeigler said. “The importance of Ball State, however you want to look at it, it’s an integral part of Muncie.”
Zeigler said that one of the most important things for communities are local programs that are designed by local people.
“You aren’t going to have a strong sense of community if things that go toward it come from the outside,” Zeigler said. “It’s definitely better if local people do it, I would say that’s true of any community.”
The Muncie Three Trails Music series will continue into its thirteenth year next year. Zeigler said that returning acts like Michael Cleveland and Lost Bayou Ramblers have been confirmed, but the full lineup is not finalized.
