Digital Corps creates campus-wide bus widget

MUNCIE, Ind. — Getting across campus just got a little easier for Ball State students. Thanks to a new project from the university’s Digital Corps, students can now track campus buses in real time through the My Ball State app.

A group of student workers, known as the Digital Corps, collaborates on tech-driven initiatives that enhance campus life. Their work, which includes mobile apps and websites, aims to provide valuable answers to the problems that students face daily.

The bus tracker widget, one of their most recent inventions, allows students to see the precise location of buses and their expected arrival times at each stop. The idea was developed to help students save time and reduce uncertainty when relying on campus transportation.

“Ball State students have the luxury of having great bus transport all across campus, and the next step to good transportation was making sure we could track buses as they come across

campus,” said Brandon Smith, Associate Vice President of Digital Corps. “These decisions were made with the weather in mind.”

The widget was designed and built with input from student employees at Digital Corps, combining technical skills with firsthand knowledge of campus transportation challenges.

So far, the response from students has been positive, with many saying the widget helps them plan their day more efficiently.

The bus tracker is available now on the My Ball State app, giving students an easy way to get where they need to go.
