MUNCIE, Ind. — The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures held an annual pizza party for clubs within the department. This year has presented numerous opportunities for both new and returning students to engage in campus life and experience diverse cultures.
Alex Eppelry, who works for the department, explained some of the highlights: “We teach languages and cultures, we have a variety of languages, we offer classes in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, and Spanish, and we also have a teacher education program.”
Getting involved on campus can create more opportunities to connect with new, like-minded people, build a community away from home, and, in this case, learn a new language while building your resume. Learning a new language can be a great addition to your professional background, but don’t worry if you don’t already know a language; all these clubs are open to anybody and do not require you to learn the language.
The president of the Chinese Language and Culture Club, Amy Wang, said, “We just get to explore and learn new things about Chinese culture, and it’s open to everyone, so you don’t have to know any Chinese to join.”
The study abroad program is part of this department and offers the opportunity to study in different countries, providing an adventure into a new environment.
Study abroad advisor Shelby Knoll shared the upcoming spring study abroad destinations, “Right now we’re highlighting our spring program, so we’re having BSU in San Jaun and BSU in Dublin.”
