MUNCIE, Ind. – The weekly culture exchange event, held at the Rinker Center for Global Affairs, focused on Chinese culture, specifically the art of Kung Fu.
Exchange students from China gave this week’s presentation, focusing on Kung Fu, a form of Chinese martial arts. The presentation discussed Kung Fu history, how movies depict the sport and different types of martial arts. Attendees participated in Kung Fu, along with other forms of martial arts such as Tai Chi, a form of moving meditation that integrates ancient Chinese martial arts.
“As an international student, I think it’s a great way to get more used to the culture here, meet new people and find new forms of support,” said Ana Julia Mourau. Mourau is an exchange student from Brazil and works at the Rinker Center, coordinating cultural exchanges and other events.
Mingwei Xu is a member of the 121 Program from the Chinese North East Agriculture University and was one of the presenters at the cultural exchange. Xu arrived at Ball State just two months ago. She expressed that this was a good opportunity for her to meet other students and teach others a little bit about her home.
The Rinker Center hosts many events that help international students explore what the campus has to offer and get more involved in student life.
“We are going to open for other countries and students who are interested at the beginning of the spring,” said Moarau. “I'm going to reach out and see who is interested in doing those events with me.”
Mourau explains the new events coming to the center. If you want to host your own event, contact the Rinker Center or visit the Ball State website for more information.
