How the Muncie Book Center has been a part of the community for generations

Family-owned Muncie Book Center closes its longtime location and prepares for a new chapter in downtown Muncie.

MUNCIE, Ind. — Muncie Book Center has been part of the community for many years. The book center has brought joy to the community from schools to organizations, and even across the country.

“I even sold a book to the Library of Congress,” said owner Bryan Kieth Swiher.

With the Book Center doing so well for so many years, there was a lot of help that went into giving the Book Center flair and originality.

“Muncie Mission was an intricate part of the Book Center for a number of years, [my] dad used to work in the book room for them,” said Swiher.

There was a lot of blood, sweat and tears while keeping the Muncie Book Center afloat.

“During COVID, [my] mom and dad passed on the same day seven hours apart,” said Swiher. “With us 6 kids, it was quite a hit on all of us. It was a big hurdle I had to overcome, but I did it. I sold the old location, helped the family, got some bills paid and moved here to get more opportunities and better things.”

With all that happening, he is announcing the closing of the Muncie Book Center in his family's name and is ready to announce the new location downtown.

“Have the opportunity to move downtown for bigger, better and brighter,” said Swiher.

Swiher would like to thank the following for the help and success of his family's business: Sandra Sue, Larry Wayne, Sam Patrick, Bonnie Joe and Tony Lee Swiher.

He would also like to thank the customers: Muncie Mission, Prime Trust, First Merchants Bank, Sounding Stores and Muncie Innovation Connector.
