MUNCIE, Ind. – On the first floor of the Arts and Journalism building on Ball State’s campus, students bustle around the print sale on the far side of the atrium. All different types of print art, such as stickers and posters, were on display for sale.
Each artist had different formats of design techniques that added pieces of themselves into their work.
“If you don’t put yourself into the work, what’s the work even for? It feels lifeless if you don’t put yourself into it,” Makenzy Nystrom said.
This ongoing event takes place every semester, and the number of entries grows each time. This year marks one of the most entries and therefore had to extend the length of days it was put on. Students from any major or minor can participate in putting artwork out to sell or simply buying what is out. The hustle and bustle in the area allowed for easy flow of the space, but also drew a crowd to the event. The artists work to run the sale while also watching people admire their hard work.
“I think everyone should put their own personal journey out there because art is basically a diary to the world,” Madyson Bullock said.
The hidden gems of campus aren’t only in the structure, but also in the people themselves. These talented artists will go on to do great things, whether it’s art-related or not. There aren’t many opportunities as easy to get into similar to this event, so many artists take advantage of this opportunity. It takes great talent and courage to put one’s art out there. Art tells a story, both of the image it creates and of the artist.
