Yorktown girls volleyball prepares for another deep post-season run

YORKTOWN, Ind. - Girls Volleyball Sectionals are officially in full swing, and for Yorktown High School, they’re booting up for yet another deep post-season run.

Head Coach Stephanie Bloom has a vision for what she wants to get out of her practices before diving into the playing field.

“We want to see everybody in our gym scrap and just go to work, and I think that often times in the IHSAA tournament you can beat people maybe that are more talented than you if you’re willing to outwork them, and so that’s what we want to model in our gym,” Bloom said.

Different players stepping into different roles have to come together to repeat a run as stellar as last year’s, but senior Mya Trammell knows what she needs to do as a leader to ensure this team reaches its full potential.

“My main role is just my leadership and my talk so as a senior leader, I really just want to focus on seeing people, and talking to everyone, and make sure everyone’s on the same page

about everything,” Trammell said. “So, regardless of my skill, I think my main focus is just to be there for everyone, talk, and make sure everyone knows what’s going on.”

As teams get to sectionals, nerves might rise as it’s now win or go home, but Bloom and her players are excited for the opportunity ahead.

“Everyone’s always preparing for October, and so when it finally gets here, sometimes it can feel like “woah, that happened quick” and then other times it can feel like “it’s finally here”, so I think everybody’s excited. I think the energy that we had in our gym today was excellent, which tells me that they are a team on a mission, and so I’m excited to see what we can do,” Bloom explained.

Yorktown starts their quest Saturday morning at 10 a.m.vs. Mount Vernon, looking to return to the State finals stage with potentially a different outcome in mind.
