ANDERSON, Ind. — Sixteen seasons and counting, that's how long Makup Manager, Jodie Morgan, and her team have been dressing up actors at Indy Scream Park. Originally finding the offer for the job on a Craigslist ad, Morgan has been working with Indy Scream Park for 15 years.
“We make up 150 actors in just over two hours. There is no other place that you can do that but here,” explained Morgan.
Through fine line work, latex, fake blood and multiple makeup palettes, Morgan and her team make all the characters come to life. All the tricks the team uses comes from trial and error and practical effects. Although they have all the tricks in the world, their magic comes from their trust in each other.
“We are a very team-oriented environment. Like, we all get along and work together really well. If I need to borrow something in a pinch, I can just like grab it,” said team makeup artist, Peyton Taylor.
In those two hours, each artist has 2-3 minutes to make each actor into the desired character. The team of nine does this every night. The process may be streamlined but Morgan is still surprised how they do it.
“It kind of was a fluke. And I of course didn't have any idea that this would be a 16-year thing. But I don't know, it's just fun.”
The team is always having fun when working with the actors because of the community of the scream park. Morgan and her team are able to try new things and have ideas to fall back on because each member has a special skill or niche they enjoy. One makeup artist explains the atmosphere of the team with one word.
“Honestly, I would call it home. I enjoy it so much that it feels like a safe space to me. I have people who I can care about, people I can lean on,” explained Makeup Deputy, Hunter Robleto.
The team will continue to make these charters until the season ends on Nov. 8. To buy tickets, you can visit www.indyscreampark.com
