Ball State’s women of CHAARG proves confidence grows community in AirJam performance

MUNCIE, Ind. – The women of CHAARG are empowering and building confidence one dance move at a time. The motto they embody is that fitness is always better with friends, but this time they’re shifting that to the big stage.

Behind the fun of Ball State’s Homecoming event, AirJam, is something way deeper for the group. CHAARG President and Ambassador, Anna Drake, says there’s no better way to grow community and get closer with your girls than coming up with a dance and having some fun.

“You know, your confidence just blossoms when you get to do it with the girls you love and makes you feel so supported, and all your friends just cheering you on,” says Drake.

Leading up to preparation, when Drake asked who would be interested in competing, she explained she had a lot of girls pulling her to the side expressing interest, but were feeling nervous.

With only three weeks of preparation, Drake is already pleased with how much she’s watched the group grow in confidence.

“Seeing them even get to this point of doing choreography checks… that takes a lot of confidence. It takes pride to be able to get out there and do that. I’ve seen so much growth from them, and they’re smiling with it now and having fun,” said Drake.

Along with the community and friendship CHAARG is building amongst each other, they hope to showcase it on stage to the audience as well. The songs the women will be dancing to all represent a theme of  “women's empowerment.” They hope to get the crowd excited with how much fun they are having on the stage.

“The lights hitting you and how loud everyone gets for you… how could you not cheer on a group of women who are up there supporting each other?” Drake wants to share this message of what they represent to the campus.

They’ve built strength together all semester, now they’re showing that the power of community, being supportive, and building confidence in one another might just be their best move yet.
