MUNCIE, Ind– Going into this weekend’s game, Ball State senior defensive end is tied for third in the nation in sacks.
Voorhis believes that it was the extra preparation he put in that has contributed to his stellar play.
“It stems back even to the summer,” said Voorhis. “Getting extra work in the indoor facility, watching film on NFL guys that fit my type of play style, my kind of mold, and trying to emulate the stuff they do on the field.”
Voorhis started his college football career at UConn, spending two years at the university before transferring to Ball State for his last year of eligibility.
Having so much experience, Voorhis knows that leadership is an important quality for any upperclass player.
“I try to be a better leader on the field and off the field,” said Voorhis. “In every aspect, try to bring guys along with me, you know this is a team sport.”
Defensive Coordinator for the Cardinals, Jeff Knowles, thinks it is Voorhis’ self-determination to be better that has led to his success.
“His preparation has been unbelievable… It’s like he’s one of the coaches. Every time you go by a meeting room, there is Nate in there watching film,” said Knowles.
Ball State is currently ranked 121st in the nation in defense. Despite this Voorhis’s impact has been able to help give his defense the boost they need during crucial times.
“Having a guy that can just like get a stop on a third down or get pressures on the quarterback, you know that kinda benefits everybody,” said Voorhis.
You can catch Voorhis, as he pursues more sacks, and the Ball State Football team at Shueman Stadium this Saturday as they take on Akron for homecoming.
