MUNCIE, Ind. — Muncie Animal Care and Services is a local center that takes in stray animals. They currently have around 390 pets awaiting adoption. Due to this large number, they are on an intake freeze.
Muncie Animal Care and Services partnered with PetSmart for an express adoption event to hopefully get some of their dogs adopted. At this event, eight dogs awaited their forever home.
Shawnna Davis, a volunteer and fosterer, spoke on why it is so important to her to see families adopt.
“Seeing them learn to trust, and learn to love, and fall in love with somebody, nothing is better,” said Davis.
Davis talked about how she has a special bond with every dog and how every single one is perfect. Muncie Animal Care and Services is a no-surrender and no-kill shelter. One dog's story changed when her owner was told they could not surrender her.
“When we said we could not take her, they left, took her outside, and threw this nine-year-old dog over our six-foot fence into our playyard and left,” said Davis.
Unfortunately, occurrences like this are not uncommon.
“Just because a dog has a bad past doesn’t mean they have to have a bad future,” Davis explained.
One family walked into PetSmart and left with a brand new addition to their family. Tasha Miles spoke about why she decided today was the day to adopt.
“I don’t like when dogs are in little cages, so it just makes me feel like they just they feel abandoned, so just to give a dog another chance to be happy and a family, is always the best idea,” said Miles.
Muncie Animal Care and Services wants people to know that any senior dog, or dogs that have been at the shelter for longer than six months, have their adoption fees waived. Senior citizens, first responders, military personnel, and veterans looking to adopt will also have waived fees. All dogs are vaccinated and vetted before adoption, so adopting families don’t have to worry about any of that. They are always looking for volunteers.
