MUNCIE, Ind.— On Sunday, Ball State Soccer hosted a Fan Appreciation Day. The Cardinals hosted a penalty shootout for young fans at halftime, where they could take penalty shots against Charlie Cardinal.

Goalkeeper Abby Jenkins showcased how much she appreciated the fans by saying,

"The fans keep the energy high. Hearing them cheer after big moments, that's what gets all the players, especially me, eager for the next plays." Jenkins continued, “It's great to have, you know, people who support us, they're who we play for, they're here for us the same way we are here for them."

The appreciation for the fans is not just showcased by the players; however, it is also shown by the coaching staff.

“I can’t be more grateful for their support and how they show up and try and spur us on in moments when we need it,” head coach Andy Stoots said. “I think they have an emotional connection to the game also.”

On top of the penalty shootout,  the Cardinals stuck around to sign autographs for young fans after the game concluded.

“Just giving back the love they give us is super important, so playing for them is what we’re about,” said Jenkins.

Despite a loss on Sunday, the Cards were still eager to celebrate their fans because Jenkins says,

“The fans are why we are here.”
