Muncie Community Schools Director of Public Education and CEO Dr. Lee Ann Kwiatkowski to retire at end of school year

Muncie Community Schools (MCS) Director of Public Education and CEO Lee Ann Kwiatkowski will be retiring at the end of the year. She will be succeeded by Charles (Chuck) Reynolds, a Muncie Southside graduate and longtime district administrator, according to a statement from MCS Chief Communications Officer Andy Klotz. 

“This decision was incredibly difficult for me,” Kwiatkowski said in the statement. “I have grown to love the people of Muncie and I’m very proud of all we’ve accomplished at Muncie Community Schools in the last five years, but my family is ready for me to be located closer to them.”

Kwiatkowski's final day will be June 30.

Reynolds has been serving as MCS’ associate superintendent since 2019, overseeing all the district’s preschool through 12th grade instructional programs and initiatives. Reynolds helped with the planning to create the district's current strategic plan. This plan focus "high-quality pre-kindergarten education, recruitment, development and retention of educational leaders, student-centered teaching and active learning, social and emotional learning (SEL) and family and community engagement," according to the statement.

Reynolds has spent multiple years with MCS including six years as band director at Muncie Southside High School and various administrator roles at Wilson Middle School, Muncie Central, and Muncie Southside. 

According to the statement, Reynolds is involved in the Muncie community with various leadership positions on boards across the community and receiving multiple community awards, including a Key to the City award, a “Muncie Difference Maker" award, and a Muncie Citizenship Award.

“Dr. Reynolds is the perfect person to continue all the progress we’ve been making since 2018,” MCS School Board President Jim Williams said. “We have been blessed with Dr. Kwiatkowski’s knowledge and experience, and she will be missed, but Chuck has been her co-pilot throughout the Ball State partnership, and I expect this transition to be seamless.”

The David Owsley Museum of Art (DOMA) doesn’t only house art. For many Ball State University students, it houses opportunity. Graduate and social media assistant, and former DOMA intern and guard, Taylor Hamblin spent the past two years working at the museum surrounded with possibilities to further her career while at Ball State.
