Ball State women's tennis picks up home win over Bradley

On Sunday, Ball State faced off against the Bradley at the Northwest YMCA for a 4-3 victory.

At No. 1 doubles, freshmen Sarah Shahbaz and Isabelle Tanjuatco fell 3-6. No. 2 doubles pairing junior Ella Hazelbaker and junior Annika Planinsek won 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, junior Elena Malykh and sophomore Sydney Hrehor fell 3-6.

Following doubles' play, a battle ensued between the Cardinals and the Braves for the singles points.

At No. 1 singles, Planinsek won the first set 6-1, lost the second 0-6, and won the third 6-1, giving Ball State a point. Shahbaz, at No. 2 singles, won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 which gained another point for the Cardinals.

At No. 3 singles, Malykh fought hard and went into a tiebreak in the first set, but unfortunately lost 6(5)-7, 4-6. At No. 4 singles, Hrehor fought and went to three sets, but fell 6-3, 3-6, 3-6.

Tanjuatco, at No. 5 singles, lost the first set 2-6, came back and won the second 7-5 and won the third 6-0, giving Ball State a third point. At No. 6 singles, Hazelbaker won the first set 6-4, lost the second 4-6 and won the third with a set score of 7-5. Hazelbaker’s win secured a fourth point and a victory for the Cardinals. 

Ball State seeks to continue its win streak at home against Northern Illinois University on Sunday, Mar. 17th at 1 p.m.
