The Ball State Student Government Association (SGA) began with a presentation from Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Tiffany Peters.
The presentation focused on informing SGA of the basic needs hub, which is a three-year-old program that helps ensure students have all of the basic necessities they need when facing insecurity at Ball State. According to Peters, the program aims to help students acquire several resources, such as food, housing, and emergency aid.
“Our goal with the basic needs hub is to have a place where someone can come in, talk to us, get the resources we have on campus, and get community resources, because the university can’t necessarily meet every need,” Peters said.
Sen. Shaina Miller presented one new budget request for community garden improvements as the head of the Community and Environmental Affairs Committee. The committee requested an outdoor swing, a picnic table that converts into a bench, a bird feeder and bird seed.
“It [the community garden] has functioned really well as a gardening space, but we’re trying to make it more of a space where people can have…community meetings and just enjoy time in the garden,” Miller said.
The request was approved 19-2, with one abstention.
SGA then presented their executive reports. President Pro Tempore Brenna Large reminded the senators of their requirement to complete two organizational visits, as well as two service hours.
Chief of Staff Katrina Leming also gave an update on some of the projects her cabinet has been working on.
“Sarah, your Secretary of American Affairs, she's still working on her tree proposal. She went and took pictures of potential places for those tree replacements to occur, and is creating an index for that,” said Leming.
With no pieces of new or unfinished business, the senate meeting was then adjourned.
