Here are results from Delaware County sporting events from the week of 10/16-10/21.

Below are highlights and results from the past week’s Delaware County sporting events that those on the Daily News Sports Team were unable to attend. 

Monday (Oct. 16)

Friday (Oct. 20)

Yorktown football defeated Fort Wayne Concordia 31-14 in the first round of sectionals. The Tigers valued the run game as they finished the contest with 437 rushing yards. Senior Ayden Ewing led Yorktown with 324 rushing yards and four touchdowns. 

Delta defeated Norwell 47-7 in the first round of sectionals. Just like the Tigers, the Eagles used the run game to defeat the Knights. Senior Kaiden Bond led with 137 rushing yards and three touchdowns. 

Saturday (Oct. 21)

Yorktown volleyball competed in Regional Three. In the first game, the Tigers defeated Cathedral 3-2. Junior Charlotte Vinson led the team with 29 kills. In the championship game, Yorktown fell to Roncalli 3-1. Vinson led the Tigers once again with 25 kills. 

Burris volleyball competed in Regional Ten. In the first game, the Owls defeated Madison-Grant 3-0. Junior Lilly Howell led the team with 17 kills. In the championship game, the Owls defeated Adams Central 3-0. Howell led Burris once again with 18 kills. 

Multiple Delaware County cross-country teams and individuals competed at Regional Two. In the boys’ race, Wapahani senior Nick Cook finished in second with a time of 15:46.1. Yorktown freshman Wyatt Turner tied for 18th with a time of 16:17.8. He became the fourth boys' runner in Yorktown history to qualify for the State Finals. He is also the first in school history to qualify as a freshman. Delta senior Tyler Dillon finished in 20th with a time of 16:18.1. In the girls’ race, Delta senior Nicki Southerland won the race with a time of 17:31.9. All four runners will compete at the State Finals in Terre Haute on Saturday, Oct. 28.
