Women's Soccer shuts out Austin Peay on Senior Day

Muncie, IND. —Ball State University Soccer was back at home this weekend after a rough road stretch.

“It was nice to sleep in our own bed you know,” head coach Josh Rife said.

The Cardinals have been very successful at home, with a 23-2-4 record over the past 3 years, and were looking to continue that success against Austin Peay with Senior Night festivities taking place before the match.

“Most of these seniors came in during my first year,” Coach Rife said. “They’ve done everything we’ve asked them to do on and off the field and I think they are going to leave a great legacy”

Early in the first half, sophomore forward Emily Roper got her first of two goals on the day to give Ball State the lead. Her second goal would come later in the second half from a nice header that was assisted by junior defender Maya Millis. To end the scoring for the Cardinals, senior forward Avery Fenchel, got herself on the scoring chart.

The Cardinals’ suffocating defense shut out the Governors of Austin Peay and finish the game with a 3-0 victory.

“They weren’t all great moments, but we battled hard and played hard in certain moments,” Rife said.

The Cardinals' next match is on the road again, this time at Butler University on Thursday at 7 p.m. Ball State will make its next home appearance the following Thursday, Sept. 21, against Miami (Ohio) to kick off the Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season.
