Continuing the Dynasty

Delta High School Girls Tennis begins a new season

MUNCIE, INDIANA.---Delta High School Girls Tennis program is gearing up for the upcoming season.

For the past seven years, the Delta Eagles have made a state appearance; three of those being team appearances, and four being individual. With a recent resume like that, the Eagles have some high expectations. Head coach, Tim Cleland, has been working with this year’s squad to prepare them for another great season.

When asked about how he is preparing the team for the season, Cleland was very confident in his answer.

“We practice hard and prepare well, we let the wins come on their own,” Cleland said.

With practice being the focus of Cleland’s visio, he has the players on the same page. This season, five of the eight state qualifying players have returned. Having the experience of being on the big stage, they are hungry to get back to the state level.

“Oh I’m definitely more prepared for the season,” says varsity player Iva Witter when asked how her experience at state will prepare her this season.

“I think that conditioning like we have and being in the weight room has helped us as a team,” Janet Wegener said.

All around, confidence is high with these Eagles. Cleland knows that with his team, anything is possible, and he is ready for whatever happens.

“We all have a good time together with this team of about 35 girls and it’s quite fun,” Cleland said.

His goal is to help each of his players reach their full athletic potential, all while having a good time doing so.

The Eagles are set to start their season on April 10th at Greenfield-Central. Start time for that match is scheduled.
