Ball State Women’s Volleyball (19-6, 11-2) swept Miami (6-17, 1-11) after an impressive showing on both sides of the net Oct. 29
The Cardinals ended their matchup against the Redhawks with one of the team’s highest hitting percentages of the season at .409%.
“Right from the get-go we pretty much had all attackers firing on all cylinders, you know Miami does some unique things defensively and I felt like we just came out not overthinking their defense and just swinging away,” head coach Kelli Miller Phillips said.
Fourth-year opposite Natalie Mitchem and third-year outside hitter Cait Snyder led the team in kills with eleven and ten respectively, aided by second year setter Megan Wielonski who added four kills along with 31 assists.
Equally impressive was the Cardinals’ defensive presence. Ball State was able to hold Miami to a hitting percentage of only .174% and had thirteen total blocks to the Redhawks seven.
“We just had to have the mentality of us playing us no matter who's on the other side of the court, we just have to play us,” Wielonski said. “Today it was really just focusing on us and seeing how we could get better.”
The Cardinals led in every statistical category in route to their eleventh straight conference win. Ball State remains alone atop the Mid-American Conference (MAC), ahead of their upcoming back-to-back home matches against Kent State. Their first match is Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. at Worthen Arena.

Azzarello was extinguished and rushed away by emergency services.
