Oct. 12, right out of fall break, the Student Government Association (SGA) was back in session.

Two special guests spoke, Samantha Martin from the Career Center talked about their new opportunity called the Indiana Connection Experience where students are able to connect with businesses in Indiana.

Caitlin Moore, who is a graduate assistant in the Office of Student Life, talked about “GivePulse.” “GivePulse” is an opportunity for all Ball State students to find ways to serve and give back to the community.

“It will give you a review of what they call your service transcript, so all the service you’ve ever done [is saved in one place],” Moore said. “ It is great if you are looking to get an internship or something like that.”

The senate voted on two pieces of legislation for the day, the first one was moving the Resident Hall Association (RHA) from the On-Campus Caucus to Organizational Caucus.

“Technically, all orgs [organizations] are on campus, they are the only organization not to be in Organizational so logistically it does not make a lot of sense,” Parliamentarian Brenna Large said. “Last year there were some power dynamic issues because RHA is above Hall Councils, and all SGA representatives in On-Campus are in Hall Councils, so to alleviate some of the power dynamics and conflicts that arose from that [they moved RHA to help] going on into the future.”

The amendment passed 23-1 with three abstentions.

The second piece of legislation voted on was an amendment to require two more tabling hours for each senator, raising their required tabling hours from two to four.

Sen. Jessea Vaughan from the At-Large Caucus was opposed to the amendment.

“I have some concerns about this amendment, on the one hand, I can understand the rationale for it, but I am concerned especially if senators who have a bunch of other things they are doing academically,” Vaughan said. “I am concerned that even though it is minor, that it would be a constraint.”

The amendment failed 12-9 with five abstentions.

The Off-Campus Caucus continues to push for more blue lights and plans to write a resolution for SGA over the topic of blue lights. The Student Safety committee is also going to push a Drunk Driving awareness and safety event for the future.

The Student Governments Association's next meeting will be held in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center in Cardinal Hall B on Oct. 19 at 3:15 p.m.
