Ball State Soccer (0-3-2, 0-0-0 MAC) went on the road to compete against Purdue Fort Wayne (2-1-2, 0-0-0 HORIZON) Sept. 1 taking a loss and keeping the Cardinals winless to start the 2022 season.

The Mastodon’s goal was scored by redshirt senior forward Kelsey Gallagher, with the assist from junior defensive Lizzie Haub. Haub sent the ball through from the defensive line leading to a breakaway for Gallagher. Gallagher took her shot from the top of the box, placing the ball in the top right corner.

“We came out a little flat but after a little coach persuasion and refocus, they were able to have more pride in themselves and find purpose behind everything they do," head coach, Josh Rife, said.

Ball State had a flurry of good opportunities in the final 10 minutes of the contest with several shots on goal and hitting the crossbar. sophomore forward Lexi Fraley and junior midfielder Avery Fechel both received yellow cards within the last minute of the game as the Cardinals searched for an equalizer. The Mastodons held the back line to see out the clean sheet and the victory.

"[We have to] continue to train and put people in realistic amounts of stress during practice,” Rife said.

The Cardinals play again on Sept. 4th at 1 p.m. on senior day where they will face Valparaiso (1-1-2, 0-0-0 MVC).
