Ball State's Annual Family Weekend in Review

Families enjoy visiting their students during Ball State's annual family weekend.

Sept. 16-18 was Ball State University’s family weekend, which is an annual event hosted by the university to welcome families from all over in support of their students.

The weekend was filled with activities designed for families to have fun and spend quality time together. Friday kicked off with a win from the field hockey team against the Longwood Lancers, where the Cardinals won 3-2. After the game, families and students were able to learn more about the earth and space at the “Dynamic Earth” planetarium show.

Other Friday activities included a walking tour of downtown Muncie and a musical showcase to show off Ball State’s musical talent.

Saturday’s events began at 9 a.m. with the Children’s Fair for families with young children, inspiring them to become future Cardinals with games, inflatables and big prizes.

At 11 a.m. tailgating started in the parking lot at Scheumann Stadium. The Ball State marching band played, while students and their families played games and enjoyed the football game against Murray State. Ball State took the victory 31-0, with celebrations following.

Saturday night ended with a family game night, hosted by Ball State’s Late Nite crew. Board games, bingo and cards were played until 1 a.m. the next morning.

The final event took place on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. The 14th Annual Family Weekend Golf Outing at Crestview Golf Course started with breakfast and ended with lunch for all families who participated.

Ball State family weekend was filled with fun, laughter and memories for cardinals of all ages. Several alumni took this as an opportunity to come back and take a trip down memory lane.

Susan Byrd, who attended Ball State in 1985 with her husband Johnny, explained why Ball State was a good choice for them.

“We wanted our son, Finn Byrd, to be able to actually move out and have the full college experience,” Susan said.

The Byrd family like many others enjoy weekends like these at Ball State University. The next big weekend at Ball State will be homecoming on Oct. 21-22.
