All throughout Delaware County, city officials, local businesses, and charitable organizations alike are celebrating Independence Day in a myriad of different ways. If you’re looking for something to do or maybe looking for a way to spice up your 4th of July celebration, here are five different events taking place on July 4 that are sure to be a blast.

1 – Car Show at Muncie City Hall

At 300 N High St., the City of Muncie will put on a car show at the city hall featuring classic cars, hot rods, custom mods, and more. Competitors are welcome to enter their vehicles from 4-6:30 p.m. for an entry fee of 5 dollars. The first 50 contestants will receive commemorative dash plaques for the event, and awards will be given out for the Mayor’s choice, Police Chief’s choice, Best in Show, and more. Proceeds from the event will support the Muncie Animal Care and Services animal shelter run by the City of Muncie.

2 – Set the Night to Music Fireworks Show

Beginning at 10 p.m., the City of Muncie will broadcast a special radio show on 104.1 HD1 WLBC and 104.9 WERK FM. The radio show covers the fireworks event that will take place on the grounds of Muncie Central High School by the levee, also beginning at the same time. Pyrotechnico, a fireworks display company based in New Castle, Pennsylvania, will direct and administer the fireworks show.

3 – Independence Day at Minnetrista

In the Minnetrista Museum and Gardens at 1200 N Minnetrista Parkway, a festival will take place for the Fourth of July. Minnetrista will host food trucks, shoot off fireworks, and feature balloon artists and musicians for the evening. The event, sponsored by First Merchants Private Wealth advisors, will begin at 8 p.m. and end at 11 p.m.

4 – Patriotic Pops at Yorktown Civic Green

The Yorktown community will be celebrating the Fourth of July with a free live orchestra concert at 8 p.m. in the Yorktown Civic Green at 9400 IN-32.

"The concert will be a celebration of America, featuring music by American composers including Leroy Anderson, George Gershwin, John Williams, and John Philip Sousa, led by a great American conductor Kermit Poling, and showcase two amazing young American singers,” said Scott Watkins, Executive Director of Orchestra Indiana, in a press release. The concert is sponsored by Lifestream Services.

5 – Four for the Fourth Marathon

In the morning of July 4, Four for the Fourth will host a 4-mile marathon in Yorktown to commemorate Independence Day. The organization is raising money for the Yorktown School Foundation and Yorktown Trails. The race begins at 9400 W Smith Street and runs past the Yorktown Middle School and High School, through the Yorktown Sports Park, around the Morrow’s Meadow and back to the starting point. The winning man and woman will each win $5,000 dollars and other awards are available based on age group. Registration is $35 before the event; check in begins at 6:30 a.m.
