Wapahani falls to Illiana Christian in 2A State Semifinal

Illiana Christian High School (21-7) shut out Wapahani High School (24-5) June 11, advancing to the Indiana State High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) 2A State Championship.

Illiana Christian got ahead early with five runs in the second inning before adding one more in the fifth inning to secure the win.

Senior Ian Van Beek helped lead the Vikings to victory with two hits, two RBIs and going 2-3 at the plate while senior Gabe VanRoekel went 1-3 with two RBIs.

Junior southpaw pitcher Kevin Corcoran was on the mound all seven innings, dishing out seven strike outs while only allowing one hit and one walk to hold the Raiders to a .045 hitter percentage. Corcoran also went 2-3 from the plate with an RBI.

Wapahani ends their season 24-5 while picking up Mid-Eastern Conference, Sectional and Regional championships.

The Vikings will play Centerville High School (21-5) in the IHSAA State Championship June 17-18.
