Delta Girls' Tennis advance to State Semifinal

Muncie Delta girl's tennis defeated Oldenburg Academy of the Immaculate Conseption 3-2 to advance in Indiana High School Athletic Assocition (IHSAA) state tournament June 3.

Delta split the doubles points with the Lady Twisters as senior Maggie Hunt and junior Janet Wegener (Delta) defeated Evenly Storms and Mimi Wilder (Oldenburg) in two sets (6-3 and 6-3) while senior Madelyn Haley and junior Iva Witter (Delta) fell to Mary Hunter and Emma Back (Oldenberg) in two sets (6-4 and 6-3).

The Eagles went two-for-three in singles matches to earn the vicotry at host court Center Grove High School. Delta's senior Gwendolyn Clark and freshman Brylee Beckley both earned set wins with Clark sweeping Isabel Price (6-0 and 6-0) and Beckley winning in two over Evie Vanderpohl (6-2, 6-1). The lone singles win from Oldenburg came from Alyssa Wanstrath who defeated sophomore Gabby Knight in a third set tiebreaker (6-4, 1-6 and 10-2).

The Twisters end their season 21-5 while Delta advances to face Fishers in the IHSAA State Semifinals June 4 at 10 a.m. at ParkTudor High School.
