Ball State University student crowned Miss Indiana

In Zionsville, June 18, current Ball State University student Elizabeth Hallal, a Musical Theatre major (class of 2023), was crowned Miss Indiana. Hallal is scheduled to represent the state of Indiana at the Miss America pageant on December 17, 2022.

The Georgetown, Indiana, native won $11,000 in scholarships due to this win and her multiple other wins on the night (preliminary red carpet, preliminary talent, outstanding vocalist and performing arts) meant she earned approximately more than $13,000 in scholarships.

According to an Instagram post by Hallel and reports from WTHR.com, she performed a theatrical vocal performance of "Defying Gravity" from the musical "Wicked" as a part of the Miss Indiana pageant. Hallel followed her accomplishment with an extended Instagram post, recapping her thoughts and feelings on the pageant.

"I am so excited for the year ahead of me, and I am so thankful the judges saw imperfect, quirky me as the next Miss Indiana," Hallel said. "I truly believe I allowed my heart to shine in everything I did during this competition, and I will continue to lead with my heart through the next year, as an example of kindness, connection, and service-doing (yes, service-doing). Over the next 365 days, I am committed to using my platform and new sparkly hat to bring the arts to all across our state, making creative opportunities more accessible and equitable."

According to the same WTHR.com report, Hallel plans to spend some of this time working on a "social impact initiative", "The Triple A Project: Accessibility to Arts for All".
