Mid-American Conference Champion Cardinals selected to NCAA Tournament for May 6 match

Ball State Women’s Tennis (19-4, 8-2 MAC) won the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship over Toledo (18-7, 7-3 MAC) 4-3 on May 1. With that, the Cardinals earned an automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament, where they were selected to face off against No. 4 seed Texas (20-4, 8-1 Big 12) in round one May 6 at 2 p.m. ET in Austin, Texas.

This is Ball State’s second year in a row it has been selected for the NCAA Tournament after they lost 4-0 to Vanderbilt in 2021. As for the Longhorns, they are the defending National Champions for Women’s Tennis after they defeated Pepperdine 4-3 in last season’s final.

The Cardinals won the regular season MAC Championship this year along with the MAC Tournament and are led by head coach Max Norris. This is Norris’s fourth regular season Championship and his third time leading Ball State to the NCAA Tournament, with his first coming in 2016.

The winner of this contest goes on to face the winner of the matchup between Michigan (19-5, 10-1 BIG 10) and Oregon (15-8, 5-5 PAC-12) May 6 at 1 p.m. ET in Austin, Texas. The second-round match takes place May 7 at 4 p.m. ET in Austin, Texas.
