Ball State men's basketball's standout freshman center Payton Sparks announced April 1 that he will return to the Cardinals for the 2022-23 season.

The announcement comes after Sparks initially entered the transfer portal March 16, citing the vacant head coach role after James Whitford's dismissal following the 2021-22 season.

About a week after Ball State announced the hiring of former-UCLA assistant coach Michael Lewis to fill the role, Sparks said he has chosen to stay.

"I love the vision that coach Lewis has here at Ball State and I want to be apart of it," Sparks said in a tweet April 1. "We have the pieces here to win a lot of games and I'm ALL IN [sic]."

Freshman guard Jaylin Sellers, who entered the portal March 18, announced April 2, via a twitter post, that he will return to Ball State along with Sparks and freshman forward Basheer Jihad.

"ALL PRAISE TO THR [THE] MOST HIGH PBJ [Payton, Basheer and Jaylin] ALL IN [sic]," Sellers said in the tweet.
