Freshman guard Lucas Kroft announced via Twitter that he is planning to "transfer and pursue another opportunity elsewhere" on Monday. The freshman played 14 games with Ball State, recording 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in 122 minutes of playing time.
"Thank you to Coach Whitford and the rest of the staff for recruiting me and for giving me the opportunity to play at Ball State," Kroft said in his Twitter post. "I'm thankful for the friendships that I've made while being here and having the opportunity to learn all that I did. I've decided that it is my best interest for me to transfer and pursue another opportunity elsewhere."
Kroft recorded a career-high six points in a 87-43 win over Defiance and a career-high six rebounds in a 100-69 win over Howard.
Coming to Ball State, Kroft was an All-State Honorable mention at Richmond High School in 2019. With the Red Devils, Kroft surpassed 1,000 points, averaging 21 points, five rebounds and four assists. He was rated one of the top 20 players in Indiana's Class of 2019 by IndyStar's Kyle Neddenriep.
Kroft is the third player in the last four seasons to leave the Ball State Men's Basketball program. Jontrell Walker left Ball State in 2018, transferring to Jackson State in Mississippi. Tyler Leedy also left the program in 2018. Leedy did not transfer to another program.
