Golden Bears wrestler breaks record

MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) — After securing a win at sectionals, Logan Swallow officially became the all-time leader in wins for the Golden Bears wrestling team. This marks the second year in a row that such an event has occurred.

Tyler Jones had held the previous record last season. Swallow, who was Jones’ teammate last season when the record was broken, talked about his relationship with Jones and what it was like breaking his former teammate’s record.

“When my grandpa was congratulating him on the record, he made a comment along the lines of ‘well it’ll last a year,’” said Swallow.

Jones was also Swallow’s teammate on the football field. It is football where Swallow’s future lies. He has signed to play at the University of Indianapolis after he graduates. While this will bring a busy schedule, it is a schedule he has worked with the entirety of his High School career.

“We’ve never had a problem with it,” said Head Coach Kevin Driskill. “They lift weights, which we need.”

Driskill would go on to talk about the current state of the wrestling program with two record breakers in the last two years. “We’re going in the right step now, we’re going to where we should be,” Driskill said.

The one goal that Swallow hopes to achieve more than anything is to become the first state champion in Monroe Central history. He will have a chance to accomplish this feat at the state championship this Saturday.
