Bruin Gym prepares for the calm before the storm of the 2019-2020 season.

HARTFORD CITY, Ind. (NewsLink) - Three short years ago, Bruin Gym was a different place: One that drew around 100 spectators per contest, and one that was home to a team that lost 61 straight games. All the athletes, parents, and fans wanted was one thing, to win again.

Circumstances have turned around drastically at Blackford High School.

The team is coming off their second straight season finishing above .500, doing so in front of sell-out crowds on a nightly basis.

The team fell short in sectionals to the number one team in the state, Delta High School, in the second round of Class 3-A Sectionals last season. However, this year is looking to be different for Blackford.

The drought could very well be coming to an end if things play out in their favor.

The Bruins have been moved to Class 2-A, and that is something the team is looking forward to.

Coach Jerry Hoover is not preparing his team any different, despite the change according to Luke Brown. Brown stated that the team was more familiar with [Jerry’s] system now that he’s been there for a couple of years, as he expects this to benefit the team down the stretch of the season.

Not only have the Bruins been moved down to 2-A, but they will have Brown for his junior season, and Brandon Stroble, a senior, who is on pace to hit the 1,000 career point mark in his final year.

The pair of sharp-shooters will hit the court November 26 at 6:30 P.M at Bloomington Lighthouse.
