Thirty-two minutes. That’s how much time it took for Muncie Burris (4-3) to secure the win over Wes-Del (0-6).

The game saw plenty of back-and-forth action. Momentum swung in both teams’ favor, but the Owls had it at the right time. Burris took care of the ball down the stretch to give it a 36-33 victory.

Wes-Del came out strong, leading Burris 9-8 after one quarter of play. Ten turnovers committed by the Owls was the difference after eight minutes of action. The Warriors seemed to have a stronghold on what they wanted to do on offense. By halftime, the Owls had established their offense as well. Fourteen second-quarter points gave Burris the 22-14 advantage at the half.

“Our focus tonight was purpose. We had to make sure we took care of the ball at the end,” Burris head coach David Harman said. “I told them they had to step up and play. They have to earn it.”

The Owl offense struggled to find a rhythm in the third quarter, as it only recorded four points. Just a two-point contest at the end of three quarters, the Owls had their work cut out for them in the fourth quarter. Wes-Del tied the game with 4:40 to play. Burris answered and was able to score six points down the stretch to win.

“We just had to stick to coach’s plan. We were trying not to make any stupid fouls,” Burris sophomore guard Emily Adamowicz said. “We had to make sure that when we passed the ball, we had to make sure we had an intent with what we were doing with it.”

Adamowicz scored 19 points for the Owls to help her team extend its win streak to three games. She said she thinks this season is trending differently than last season.

“Last year, we lost a lot of skillful seniors, but this year, we have a lot of good team chemistry,” Adamowicz said. “With that comes better passes, which allows more points and makes the game more fun.”

If they keep it up, an exciting season is ahead for the Owls. Now at 4-3, they will look to continue their win streak when they host Blue River Nov. 26.
