MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) — Ball State Women’s Volleyball Libero Kate Avila has entered a new echelon of the record book.

During the team’s loss to Bowling Green on Saturday, Avila reached 2,000 digs for her career.  This currently places her at third in Ball State history.

Avila, a starter since her freshman year, is 54 digs shy of second place Alyssa Rios.  She averages just 4.2 per set, which is slightly under her career rate. However, at that pace she will pass Rios in the next four matches.

Avila credits her success and longevity to her teammates around her who helped put her in the position to make plays.

Avila also has an outside chance of passing record holder Stephanie Keller, but only if the team continues deep into post-season play. The team is 5-5 in conference play, but still second in the MAC West division. The team hopes to turn around its current three game winning streak against winless Toledo, at 7 on Oct. 31 at home.
